Virtue of the Month: Perseverance — Stories from Our Students
Each month, Whitesands names a virtue and asks its students to live it. This term's virtue was Perseverance — and the stories that came back surprised even us.

Each month at Whitesands, the chaplaincy and the pastoral team name a virtue that the whole school is invited to practise — in lessons, on the field, at home. For this term, the virtue was Perseverance.
An SS1 student wrote about rewriting his history essay three times before he was willing to submit it. An SS3 footballer described pushing through a long-running knee injury to finish his last season for the school. A JS1 boy submitted, simply, a journal entry titled "the day I didn't give up on Maths."
These stories were read in assembly, displayed in the atrium, and — in a quieter way than the prize-givings — shaped how the school felt for a month.
Next month's virtue is Honesty.
