Engineer Shok Julius
Whitesands Parent

Three protagonists. One educational project.
The first educators
The conviction that founded Whitesands was that parents are the first and primary educators of their children. The school exists to extend that work, not to replace it.
In practice this means an ongoing conversation. Parents meet with their son’s mentor twice a term. They are invited to monthly formation sessions on the topics the boys are studying in their personal formation. They sit on committees that shape the life of the school.
Whitesands parents tend to know one another. The community is deliberate. Friendships formed in the school car park last decades.
The school genuinely treats parents as the first educators of our children. That partnership is what makes Whitesands different.

The educators
The men who teach at Whitesands are chosen for character as much as for credentials. A teacher who lives what he teaches is the most important resource the school has.

In their own words
“I have taught at three schools in my career, and Whitesands is singular. The culture of excellence is real — not performative. Students want to learn, and that makes teaching here a joy.”
Mr. Emmanuel Okwu
Head of English & Literature
“Teaching here for ten years has been the privilege of my professional life. The students push me to be better every single day. That energy is rare.”
Fr. Patrick Umeh
School Chaplain
The Whitesands boy
The boys at Whitesands come from across Lagos and from across Nigeria. Some have been here since JS1. Some joined for senior school. Each carries the school in his own way.
They are quiet readers and they are loud captains. They are science prefects who play in the orchestra. They are sprinters who serve at the altar. The school is large enough to hold all of it and small enough to know each of them by name.
What they share is not a type. It is a formation. By the time they leave they have been mentored, challenged, prayed with and prayed for. They have been given things to carry and they have carried them.

1,000+ graduates and counting
Eighteen graduating classes have come through the gates of the school. More than one thousand alumni are now doctors, engineers, lawyers, founders, fathers and priests, in Lagos and across the world.
Over seventy percent of Whitesands boys continue their studies abroad. Many return to Nigeria after, to build careers and raise families. A growing number send their own sons back to the school that formed them.
In their own words
“Whitesands has been everything we hoped for as a Catholic school — academically serious, but also a community that takes the formation of our children personally.”
Mrs. Amos-Penda
Whitesands Parent
“Whitesands didn't just prepare me for university — it formed me as a person. The values I carry into my career were shaped right there in those classrooms and in that chapel.”
Dr. Nnamdi Eze
Cardiologist · Class of 2005
“I came into JS1 thinking I hated science. By JS3, I was building a water-filtration robot. Now I'm reading Engineering at the University of Lagos.”
